Junior Pens Announce Coaches for 2009-2010
The Wilkes-Barre Junior Pens are pleased to announce the following coaches for the upcoming 2009-2010 Season.
Midget U18 A - Mr Rick Whitby - former coach for the Atlantic City Sharks, Boardwalk Bullies, Pee Wee and Bantam Levels
Midget U16 AA - Mr Ray Welsh - Returning back from the Pocono Pirates Midget U-16 A Atlantic District Champions 2008-2009 and DVHL Pocono Pirates Midget U-16 A 2008-2009 Champions.
Midget U16 A - Mr Ryan Shanley - Ryan has been Asst. Coach for the Crestwood Ice Hockey Club for the past 3 seasons, he also played Professional Hockey with Valley Forge Freedom of the Late Mid -Atlantic Hockey League.
Bantam A – Mr. Brian Tweedy – Coach Tweedy returns as a Bantam A coach. He has several years of playing and coaching experience. Routinely he trains several youth hockey players through his Skills and Drills and Power Skating clinics. Brian’s playing resume includes teams at the Junior level with the Binghamton Senators Organization and collegiately with the University of Scranton.
Bantam B – Mr. Mark Wisniewski – Mark has held several coaching positions and brings years of experience to the organization. In recent years, Mark has served as the head coach for the Pocono Pirates. Additionally, he has held coaching positions for the Back Mountain Varsity Scholastic team and the Keystone State team.
Pee Wee AA – Mr. John Yenchak - John is returning to his head coaching position with the Pocono Pirates /WB Junior Pens organization. In recent years, John has coached two teams to DVHL championships, Pee Wee A in 2009 and a Squirt A team recently.
Pee Wee B – Mr. Tom DeAngelo - Tom is returning as a Pee Wee B Head Coach. Tom has been a key mentor and coach for “in-house” youth hockey players and has recently extended his talents into youth hockey travel teams.
Squirt A
Mr. Don Tweedy - For those who have been around youth hockey in Northeastern Pennsylvania, you are undoubtedly aware of Mr. Tweedy’s talents and expertise in developing youth hockey players. Mr. Tweedy has a storied history with youth hockey in the area extending back to the formation of the Wilkes-Barre Wings Hockey Club in 1996. His coaching ability covers all age groups. He has taught hundreds of children at the “learn to skate” level and in the last several years has expanded his coaching resume to the collegiate level at the University Of Scranton. Mr. Tweedy will return in a head coach capacity, while we look forward to his expanded role as Ace Coordinator for the WB Junior Pens Organization.
Mr. Jeff Barrett - Mr. Barrett returns to the organization as a coach at the squirt level. We are delighted and privileged to have the talent and background of Mr Barrett. He has lifelong experience in hockey and holds the position of CEO of the WBS Penguins AHL Hockey Organization. This unique balance of Mr. Barrett’s hockey experience and his dedication to hockey within our community is a key facet to developing youth hockey players in our area.
Mite
Mr. Chris Kelleher - The Junior Pens organization welcomes Mr. Kelleher to its coaching ranks. Coach Kelleher has quite an impressive hockey resume. In addition to playing in the NHL and for our hometown Wilkes-Barre Scranton Penguins, he has been a player at one of the most successful collegiate hockey programs in the country. During his tenure at Boston University, the Terriers amassed a 114-27-14 record while winning a National Championship and 4 consecutive “Bean Pot” titles. We are privileged and pleased to welcome Chris and his son to the Jr. Pens organization.
Mr. Marc Malvizzi – Mr. Malvizzi has held coaching positions at various levels of youth hockey. In addition to coaching with the Pocono Pirates organization, Mr. Malvizzi has been highly involved with “in house” youth hockey programs. Additional coaches will be named later and compliment Mr Malvizzi’s several years of experience coaching youth hockey and round out coaching at the Mite level.
